Quality Advice

Here at DS COLOUR Labs Ltd we use Fuji Frontier 570 printers. All images should be supplied as SRGB or with our own profiles as JPEG files at 300 dpi and sized to the correct output size required. We have our own profiles which can be downloaded above. Prints are available in glossy or lustre.

Please note all files should be set as srgb not as cmyk!

Calibration / Colour Profiles

This page provides you with our calibration image and also our paper profiles to help you get the best quality from your work. There is also other advice for general printing needs.

Colour Profiles (click to download) Make sure you select save rather than run.

Then save the profiles to your desktop.

Once downloaded to your desktop right click on the profile and select install profile.
Then this profile is on your computer and will be in your list of profiles in programs such as photoshop etc. It will appear in the profile list as DS Colour frontier crystal archive(for Glossy) and DS Colour frontier DP2(for Luster). If you would prefer to drop the profiles direct into the profile folder on your computer see below.

Installation of profiles direct on to your computer PC / MAC.

Mac OS : Libary/Coloursync/Profiles

PC : My computer Normally c or d drive/Windows/System32/Spool/Drivers/Colour.

Photoshop.

There are a variety of methods to use the profile within Photoshop.

Editing your Files.

Edit your images in a standard working space such as Adobe SRGB not a printer profile.

Working spaces are designed for editing images, printer spaces are not. From this point you have a file that can be sent to any printer. If you are sending your files to our lab please convert files to our profiles in Photoshop by selecting Image/Mode/convert to profile and then select our profile which will be in the list. For users of Photoshop CS2/3/4 choose Edit/convert to Profile.

For further information on ICC Profiles and colour management etc the following site is very informative www.drycreekphoto.com

An image that looks bright and clear on your screen should produce a perfect print. If an image is dark and dull on your screen this may produce a disappointing print. Generally, most digital cameras produce excellent quality results these days, without having to edit or enhance the image at all. The best way to set your screen to our system is to have an order printed and then check that the prints match your screen.

Once you have received your prints, adjust your monitor brightness and contrast to get as close as possible to the print in your hand.

Please Note.

If you are adding text to your files please leave at least a 4/5mm border from the edge of the file as machines do vary and cropping may occur

Ordering odd sizes online please use the advice below as examples.

A3 & 14X11 SIZES

If you are ordering A3 or 14x11 prints you will need to make sure you do the following:

A3 make your canvas size to 18x12 then your image size to be 16.5x11.7 then you will just need to trim them down.

14x11 make sure your canvas size is 16x12 then your image size to be 14x11 then you will just need to trim them down.

If you require a 9x9 size you would make your canvas size 10x10 as this is our nearest print size then make your image size to be 9x9 then this will put the 9x9 in the middle of the 10x10 print.
